This FAQ page addresses common questions related to owning and maintaining pools and hot tubs.
Pools
Above ground pools are more affordable and are easier to install. They can also be moved if needed and require far less maintenance as opposed to their in-ground counterpart.
Regular maintenance required includes cleaning the surface of the pool, checking and adjusting chemical levels, maintaining the filtration system, and winterizing the pool.
Regular testing of pool water is essential to maintain proper chemical balance and ensure safe swimming conditions. Testing the water 2-3 times per week is recommended, especially when the pool has been in use.
Pool chemicals such as chlorine, pH adjusters, alkalinity increasers/decreasers, and shock treatments may need to be added regularly to maintain water balance and sanitation. The frequency in which to add chemicals varies based on a few factors such as amount of use, weather conditions, and water quality.
Hot Tubs
Hot tubs should be cleaned regularly to maintain water quality and prevent the buildup of bacteria and algae. Cleaning the filter, vacuuming the bottom of the tub, skimming the surface, and refilling the water if need be.
Hot tubs should be drained and refilled every 3 to 4 months to maintain water quality and prevent the buildup of contaminants. More frequent draining may be necessary based on usage and water condition.
Pregnant women should consult with their healthcare provider before using a hot tub. While soaking in a hot tub can provide relaxation and relief from pregnancy related discomfort, prolonged exposure to high temperatures may pose risks to fetal development.
